The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 in their fifth preseason game on Tuesday at PPG Paints Arena.
Following Monday's 5-1 Penguins victory over the Red Wings in Detroit, both teams used different lineups for Tuesday's second half of their home-and-home match in Pittsburgh. Penguins defeat was 2-1.
Rickard Rakell scored his first goal of the preseason at 1:34 of the second period, following a scoreless first half. Harrison Brunicke and Eugeni Malkin provided the assist. The team recorded a total of 44 shots on Red Wings goaltender Ville Husso.
The advantage held by the Penguins was short-lived, as Amadeus Lombardi of Detroit tied the score with a wrister 74 seconds later.
Danielson's close-range wrister past Jarry late in the third quarter broke the tie and was the eventual game winner.
Compared to his preseason debut on Sunday in Sudbury, Tristan Jarry's night felt very different. He played the entire game and made 17 saves.
«Obviously, two totally polar opposite games,» he said. «You get one game with a lot of shots, and then one game with not as many shots. So I think it's just adapting and making sure that you are ready and prepared for both, because you never know what's going to happen.»
Fans have been slightly worried about the Pittsburgh Penguins because of the team's numerous injuries during the preseason. In tonight's match up against the Detroit Red Wings, forward Vasily Ponomarev sustained an injury.
Head coach Mike Sullivan revealed that Ponomarev suffered an upper-body injury.
Ponomarev was able to record one shot in 5:26 of ice time. His last shift came at 7:09 in the second period.
Penguins are already dealing with injuries to Goalie Alex Nedeljkovic, and Erik Karlsson is still recovering from an upper body injury, which remains very mysterious, as the exact details have been kept very low key.
"Ned's being evaluated for a lower-body injury, and that's all I have for you at this point,» Head Coach Mike Sullivan said. «Our medical team will look at him tomorrow, and then we'll have more definitive answers."

The Penguins will play their next preseason game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday. Hopefully the injured players can recover on time for the beginning of the season. We will keep you posted as more information releases.
