Late last month, the Penguins bought themselves some time to decide which two goalies they would like to stick with by sending Tristan Jarry to the minor leagues.
Goalie Tristan Jarry of the Pittsburgh Penguins had a challenge at the start of the 2024-25 season. Jarry was clearly turning into a liability after giving up 12 goals in three starts. He was consequently sent to the AHL by the Penguins for a conditioning assignment.
The Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins have since seen Jarry start three games, win all three, and record a .937 save percentage. Jarry's performance has been good overall, even though he has given up a few weak goals.
Last week, team president Kyle Dubas outlined the strategy for Jarry.
The Penguins will have to make another difficult decision after Wilkes-Barre's final two games in those 14 days. The Penguins will have two options now that Jarry is back. Return to a three-goalie rotation or send Joel Blomqvist, a rookie sensation, to the AHL. In his first NHL game, Blomqvist has excelled, recording a 2-4-0 record, a.909 save percentage, and 2.2 goals saved above expectations.
Mike Sullivan revealed that he doesn't communicate with Jarry, however he acknowledged that Jarry has produced impressive numbers during his time in the AHL.
The game against the Dallas Stars on November 11 would be Jarry's first eligible return game because the Penguins intended to keep him in the AHL for the duration of the 14-day conditioning period. Pittsburgh would only have three choices if Nieto is ready to be activated during the trip: send Rust to long-term injured reserve, waive or deal another forward, or activate Jarry from his conditioning loan early.
This is a developing story. We will keep you updated on Jarry's status with the team.
