The Pittsburgh Penguins traded big with the Vancouver Canucks Friday night, sending a defenseman and a forward out and bringing three in, including a draft selection, in return.
Marcus Pettersson himself, a trading rumor target for several months, wasn't a move general manager Kyle Dubas took lightly, but Dubas did have nothing but praise for both Pettersson and Drew O'Connor, saying both will be cherished for years of service in Pittsburgh and that their impact hasn't gone unnoticed with the group, either.
The players that Pittsburgh took in include a face many will remember: Danton Heinen, who is returning to the group after being gone for two years.
Heinen himself most recently accumulated 18 markers for Pittsburgh in 2021-22, then 17 for a season ago with Boston, but six in this current campaign.
The move brings an added boost in terms of depth, with fingers crossed for not having Pettersson's loss add to an even greater skid in playoff aspirations for the Penguins, who resume Saturday with a date with the Nashville Predators.
Despite being near the bottom of the standings, fans of the team are still hopeful this trade could maybe spark the team and push them to the playoffs.
