It's been a big week for Pittsburgh Penguins star Evgeni Malkin,. Earlier, this week, he hit his 800th NHL assist during a 6-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings, and now he's hit another major milestone with 1,300 career points, despite the 4-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Yet when asked about reaching 1,300 points, Malkin's response said it all:
When you lost, it's a little bit different. I'm not looking to my points right now, I want the team to win.
It's hard to celebrate when the Penguins just fell to the Maple Leafs and the locker room is in a sour mood so it makes sense for him to not to care about individual accolades .
That puts Malkin in some elite company, he's just the third active player in the NHL to reach 1,300 points, alongside teammate Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. Crosby, leads leads all active players with 1,598 points, while Ovi is right behind him with 1,550.
The 38 year-old has shown no sign of slowing down leading the 1-2-0 Penguins with four points, and Crosby at age 37, is right behind him with three. The legendary duo who brought three Stanley Cups to the city including consecutive parades in 2016 and 17, are aiming for another deep run together which is why they'll take wins over milestones any day of the week.
