Last season, Matt Rempe's willingness to hit and fight almost anything that moved made him a fan favourite in the New York Rangers organization. Sending Rempe down to the AHL was a bit of a surprise amongst many fans and analysts.
The New York Rangers declared on Saturday morning that they had called up winger Jake Leschyshyn from the Wolf Pack.
Jake Leschyshyn, who has split his career between the Rangers and the Vegas Golden Knights organization, is the team's replacement for Matt Rempe. Leschyshyn is a much more subdued player, which is probably more advantageous to head coach Peter Laviolette, than Matt Rempe, who notably had 71 penalty minutes in just 17 games last season.
Even though Matt Rempe will probably have more opportunities in the NHL this season, his antics and inconsistent play have pushed him back to the AHL for the time being. Though not as rapidly as many had hoped, the potential is still there at the young age of 22, given his exceptional physical attributes.
Leschyshyn has participated in five games this season and earned three points thus far. Nevertheless, he only participated in 77 NHL games during his career, scoring two goals and dishing out four assists in 10:15 per game.
