Engaras stumbled unpredictably and awkwardly while working the puck in the offensive zone, falling head over heels and regrettably head-first into the boards. He laid motionless on the ice after taking the awkward spill.
After the collision, the New Jersey Devils prospect stayed still on the ice, making sure Engaras was stabilized, the medical staff moved swiftly to get him onto the stretcher. Positively, you can see that Engaras was moving his hands while on the stretcher in the video below, which is a very positive sign.
Eventually he was brought to the hospital for additional assessment, they disclosed that Engaras was completely conscious and receptive, which is obviously a positive indication.
Engaras becomes the latest player to sustain a major injury this season. For instance, Anthony Duclair, a forward for the New York Islanders, is out for four to six weeks due to a groin strain. Given that it involves head contact, Engaras' injury is undoubtedly much scarier.
Engaras is a 25-year-old Swedish forward who weighs 200 pounds and stands 6 feet 1 inch. He was playing his fifth game of the season for Utica, the AHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, when he was selected in the sixth round by the Edmonton Oilers in 2020.
We are thinking of him and wish for a swift recovery.
