The Montreal Canadiens have secured Juraj Slafkovsky with an eight-year extension, committing long-term to the 2022 first overall pick.

Juraj Slafkovsky has signed an eight-year, $60.8M contract with the Montreal Canadiens, averaging $7.6M per season until 2033. Details on any clauses were not disclosed by the Canadiens.
The move secures Slafkovsky in Montreal until he turns 28, anchoring a youth movement in the Habs organization alongside current talents under 25 such as Kirby Dach, Kaiden Guhle, Cole Caufield, and captain Nick Suzuki, as well as promising prospects like David Reinbacher, Lane Hutson, and 2024 1st round pick Ivan Demidov.
Surprisingly selected first overall by Montreal in 2022 ahead of projected top pick Shane Wright, 20-year-old Slafkovsky has established himself as a cornerstone of the Canadiens' lineup. Despite a slow start in his first NHL season, he rebounded strongly in his sophomore year, scoring 20 goals and totaling 50 points in 82 games during the 2023-24 season.
