It poses a dilemma especially considering Alexis Lafrenières success, in his NHL career. However it's essential not to overlook all that young Cole Caufield has achieved for the Montreal Canadiens.
Caufield, who is 23 years old has recorded a total of 149 points in his 205 NHL games so far with 81 goals, to his name. He has also contributed 12 points in the 20 playoff games he's played.
This season Caufield has managed to score 65 points in the 82 games. His annual salary stands at $7.85 million until the year 2031.
On the other hand Lafrenière, aged 22 has amassed a total of 148 points in his career spanning across 298 NHL games, showcasing a tally of 75 goals. Additionally he has notched up a total of 21 points in playoff games.
This season Lafrenière has scored 57 points in 82 games. He also has 12 points in 13 playoff games.
His current yearly earnings amount to $2.325 million and are set to continue until the year 2025.
The outcome of the poll took me by surprise; I had expected Caufield to emerge as the favoured choice. Nevertheless I personally lean towards keeping Cole.
