Judd Moldaver, the agent of Edmonton Oilers star player Connor McDavid speaks out about the captain's recuperation.

The Edmonton Oilers announced on Tuesday that Connor McDavid, their captain, will be sidelined for two to three weeks due to an ankle injury. During Monday night's 6-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, the superstar sustained an injury early in the game. McDavid appeared to jam his left skate hard against the lower portion of the sideboards early in the game, tripping and crashing into the boards. He did not come back for the remainder of the game after leaving the ice.
Pierre LeBrun of TSN provided an update on McDavid's health yesterday following a conversation with the player's agent, Judd Moldaver. He affirmed that the team would assess the captain on a daily basis after he jumped on the ice. He added that it appears that the primary objective is to have McDavid return as soon as possible.
"On Thursday morning, Connor McDavid did put on the skates just to test things out with that ankle injury. I had a chance to speak to his agent, Judd Moldaver from Wasserman. He basically said, look, things are pretty encouraging here.' I mean, there was some real concern, obviously, but you know, at this point they're going to have to take things day-by-day, make sure he has no setbacks. This is a player that's come back ahead of schedule before and [I] won't offer any predictions at this point - but certainly all signs are pointing to him getting up and running here again as soon as possible."
The "Edmonton Journal's" David Staples had some concerns about this hasty comeback. He observed that Edmonton has had a poor season since the beginning of 2024-25; the team cannot afford to push McDavid through. Although no one has called to declare a complete panic, Staples cautioned that McDavid might make a comeback before he is fully recovered because of the growing pressure on the team's offense to get back on track. He brought up remarks made by Ray Ferraro on the "Ray & Dregs Podcast," in which the latter discussed the perils of attempting to hasten that process.
"The one thing, just to keep an eye on, when they (Edmonton) lose and they look like they're susceptible to speed. That's something to be a little bit concerned with is. They definitely did get slower over the off season. And at some point, you'd think they might have to address that."

There is no question that McDavid and the team both want to return as quickly as possible. It can be risky, though, to rush players back into the lineup. McDavid might worsen his condition and lose even more time if he returned too soon.
Leon Draisaitl scored three points as the Oilers defeated the Nashville Predators 5-1 in their most recent game. This is a good outcome that may give some hope. Nevertheless, until Connor McDavid returns, this team and all of its supporters will have to wait patiently while balancing optimism.
