New reports reveal that the Edmonton Oilers turned down a trade offer involving Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway earlier this year.

The St. Louis Blues had offered both players an offer sheet, putting the Oilers in a difficult position.
The Blues' offer sheet complicates the Oilers' efforts to retain either Broberg or Holloway. This development comes amid reported friction between the Oilers and Broberg, which almost led to a trade and influenced this offer sheet.

Oilers miss out on trading for a star winger in exchange for Philip Broberg

An update on X sparked discussions about a potential trade from earlier this season. Elliotte Friedman reported that the Oilers were offered Pavel Buchnevich from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg.
The refusal of this trade, combined with Broberg's ongoing trade request, is now seen as a factor in the offer sheet situation. Bob Stauffer notes that Broberg's desire to be traded might simplify the Oilers' decision to let him go.
If the Oilers trade Broberg, they might not get a return as valuable as the offer sheet. Thus, the team might consider accepting the offer sheet if a trade becomes necessary.
As the offseason progresses, the Oilers' next moves will become clearer. Don't be surprised if Philip Broberg ends up with the St. Louis Blues for the 2024-25 season.
