Edmonton reporter Mark Spector under fire for tasteless comments

It's no secret that Mark Spector has developed a bit of a reputation among hockey fans during his time as a senior columnist for Sportsnet. Regretfully, the offensive comments an Oilers reporter made regarding Swedish players have garnered him criticism once more.

During a fan question and answer session on X while traveling to Dallas, one of the fans inquired about the Vancouver Canucks' potential to contend in the upcoming seasons. Spector responded with a bigoted remark about the team's genetic composition.

The hockey community took offense at this and swiftly repudiated their remark, defending the players and citizens of Stockholm. Notably, this comment reminded many NHL fans of former NHL broadcaster Don Cherry, who was dismissed following a well-known racist outburst. When a user made this comparison in response, Spector doubled down in his comment.

With remarks like those, Sportsnet is under intense scrutiny, and everyone is watching to see if they decide to discipline Spector. It is their senior columnist, though, so nothing comes close to guaranteeing he would be let go.
