Overseas contract signed by Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup champion
Since the majority of NHL players are not playing in the playoffs, summer deals have been in the works for the past few weeks.
With Scott Wilson's official signing with a KHL team, we now know that one free agent is officially off the market.
For the most of his hockey career, Scott Wilson was a forward for the Pittsburgh Penguins; he was even in the lineup when they won the Stanley Cup in 2017. After being out of the NHL for four years, this guy has now signed with a different Russian KHL franchise.
"Former Penguins forward Scott Wilson signs with Metallurg Magnitogorsk in Russia's KHL.
He was a member of the 2017 Stanley Cup championship team."
Scott Wilson, who is currently 32 years old, played 193 NHL games. However, he spent the last season with the KHL's Vityaz Moscow Region team, his second with the franchise after being one of several players to have their contract extended.
"Vladislav Kara, Vladimir Galuzin, Ilya Arkalov, Scott Wilson and Vitali Popov sign one-year extensions with Vityaz. #KHL"
In 38 games this season, he scored 20 goals and totaled 30 points in the KHL, having a strong season. With Metallurg Magnitogorsk under his belt, he will now try to maintain his dominance in this league.
"Another overseas free agent is off of the market, as Scott Wilson 🇨🇦 has signed with Metallurg Magnitogorsk (KHL) 🇷🇺
Wilson, 32, had 20 goals, 30 points through 38 games played with Vityaz Moscow Region (KHL) 🇷🇺 this season.
He is a veteran of 193 NHL games, and is a 1x Stanley Cup champion (2017)."
It is difficult to think Wilson won't be joining a fellow former NHL player in joining an international league, given the large number of NHL players who are about to become free agents. However, the precise number of people who have joined the KHL won't be known until later.
