Edmonton Oilers' decision to hire Stan Bowman sparks massive fan petition
The Edmonton Oilers have stirred up controversy with their unexpected hiring of Stan Bowman, prompting fans to voice their discontent through a significant petition.
Recently reinstated by the NHL after his role in the 2010 Chicago Blackhawks scandal, Bowman was swiftly appointed as the Oilers' new General Manager on Wednesday, much to the dismay of many fans.
The reaction from fans has been largely negative, with many questioning Bowman's suitability for such a prominent role in the NHL. In response, they have rallied together to create a petition calling for his removal.
Nearly 3.5x the population of the Vatican City 🇻🇦 have signed a petition to get Stan Bowman out of the #Oilers 🇨🇦 organization.
Bowman was the general manager of the #Blackhawks 🇺🇸 in 2010 where it was later revealed a decade later that he was a part of covering up the r*pe of one of his players by an equipment manager during their cup run.
With over 3,000 signatures already collected on change.org, the petition may not sway the Oilers' management, but it reflects the strong collective frustration and disapproval from the fan base. Anticipating backlash, CEO Jeff Jackson had made his X account private before the announcement, and the fan uproar now highlights the team's controversial decision, perceived as a disregard for ethical considerations.
