Significant news has emerged regarding the Edmonton Oilers' ongoing contract discussions with their star forward, Leon Draisaitl.

Since July 1st, Leon Draisaitl has been eligible to sign a new deal. With only one year left on his current contract with the Oilers, fans are eager to see an extension completed before the 2024-25 season kicks off.
Commentator Bob Stauffer from Oilers radio has shared a promising update for fans. He indicated that Draisaitl is expected to sign a new extension soon.
"It would not surprise me if Leon were to be signed to an extension shortly."
After an $8.5M AAV contract for the past eight seasons, Draisaitl could potentially become one of the highest-paid players in the NHL with his next deal.
Forecasts suggest that his new contract might be in the $13-14M range, comparable to the contract Auston Matthews signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs last summer.
Despite these projections, Draisaitl's agent, Jiri Poner, has emphasized that there's no immediate pressure to finalize a deal:
"There's no rush yet, but either it happens quickly, by end of August, or it doesn't work out at all. It will become clear whether Edmonton wants him or not."
