After a strong beginning to his tenure, the Dallas Stars are preparing to buy out veteran Ryan Suter, marking the second occurrence of such an event in his career.

After being bought out by the Minnesota Wild three years ago, veteran Ryan Suter found a new home with the Dallas Stars. Throughout his three-season tenure, Suter showcased consistency by playing in all 82 games annually and achieving point totals of 32, 25, and 17, respectively. Despite his contributions, a decline in performance during the 2023-24 season has led the team to decide on his buyout.
The Dallas Stars are buying out the remainder of Ryan Suter's contract.

With one year remaining on Suter's deal this move will add $1.4 million on the Stars cap for the next two seasons.

The Stars will save $1.4 million with the buyout.
According to Jeff Marek, Dallas will save $1.4 million with this move. They have one year left on Suter's contract and will spread an additional $1.4 million over the next two years. While Suter started strong in Dallas, the team was dissatisfied with his production, prompting them to use the saved funds to bolster their roster with younger players and depth.
The future for 39-year-old Suter is uncertain. After his second buyout in four years, it appears his career is winding down, possibly nearing its conclusion.
