The Dallas Stars were dealt a massive blow last week when it was announced that Tyler Seguin could be out for the season after suffering an injury and subsequent surgery. This news doesn't appear to alter their plans for a serious Stanley Cup run this season.
Jeff Marek of 'Daily Faceoff' reports that Tyler Seguin's $9.85 million cap hit could be transferred to LTIR, freeing up much potential flexibility for Dallas to do just about anything.
After all, the Stars have shown before they are not afraid to be aggressive in pursuit of a championship. Last season alone, they added Chris Tanev, who turned out to be a mainstay on their blue line during their run to the Conference Finals.
To land one of the "big-game" or "big-ticket" players Jeff Marek hints at, Dallas will have to make sacrifices.
He mentions three promising young players in Logan Stankoven, Mavrik Bourque, and Lian Bichsel as players that GM Jim Nill would rather not trade but may have to deal for a big catch.
One potential target mentioned by Marek is Columbus Blue Jackets forward Mathieu Olivier. However, prying him away might be tough as Columbus seems intent on re-signing the pending UFA, as opposed to giving him away.
No matter how this plays out, it definitely appears the Stars will be a force to be reckoned with as the weeks go by leading up to the trade deadline.
