At times this year, it has seemed to be only a matter of time until Columbus move Ivan Provorov, but that may not be the case after all according to a top insider.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have one of the most talented young cores in the NHL, and while they've taken a step forward this season, it appears that they are committed to growing with this young team.
For most fans and analysts, that means moving their veterans at the trade deadline this season for more future assets, that including Ivan Provorov, who has seemed to be on his way out for most of the season.
Last month, it was revealed that the team were seeking a first-round pick in exchange for Provorov, but according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, things may have shifted in recent times.
«There's a new twist for sure. His young brother Vladimir Provorov, it was announced Monday that he is committed to Ohio State. And I spoke with Ivan Provorov's agent and family advisor, and obviously these are seperate business decisions, we gotta be careful here, but the two brothers are very close, and part of the reason why the younger brother is committed to Ohio State is obviously because they spend a lot of time in Columbus, and the Provorov family really like Columbus.»
According to LeBrun, Ivan's younger brother Vladimir is now heading to Ohio State to play Division 1 hockey, with the main part of his decision being made so he could be close to his brother in Columbus.
This has led to renewed speculation that Provorov may indeed look to re-sign in Columbus rather than move on, with the veteran reportedly loving his time with the Blue Jackets right now.
«It is an interesting twist in all this, and one of the things the agent said to me today is that Ivan Provorov loves it in Columbus, and they are absolutely open to discussions on an extension with the Columbus Blue Jackets, if that's something the Blue Jackets would like to entertain.»
It's unclear just how much the team want him around for the long-term, as a first-round pick could be another great asset to continue adding to their young core, and with no way to block a trade and UFA status this summer, the team have a huge decision to make.
