Trade Rumors Swirl as Mikko Rantanen and Colorado Avalanche Clash Over Extension Talks
Massive trade rumors are swirling as Mikko Rantanen and the Colorado Avalanche are clashing over contract extension talks.
Mikko Rantanen is set to enter the free agent market at the end of the current season and extending his contract must be a priority for the Colorado Avalanche.
However, it's easier said than done.
According to Frank Seravalli, the organization and Rantanen's camp are nowhere near a deal.
He stated in a recent podcast intervention that the Avs won't be willing to give Rantanen a higher salary than Nathan MacKinnon, who earns $12.6M a year.
He also revealed that Rantanen could be asking something that looks like Leon Draisaitl's $14M extension, as both players have the same agent.
Finally, he talked about the idea of a trade and revealed that he doesn't believe that's what Joe Sakic or Chris McFarland want to do.

And Rantanen is sitting there going, 'Well, Leon Draisaitl, he just got to $14M for next season. We have the same agent, I know what the market looks like, why can't I get close to $14M?'
I have a hard time believing that Chris McFarland or Joe Sakic are going to walk into that Avalanche locker room this season and tell Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar, 'Hey, we just traded Mikko Rantanen.'

Being a part of a winning franchise is a perk in itself, and Rantanen should consider accepting a few million less to remain with the Avs.
