The Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to keep their playoff dreams alive and today they decided to reach that goal Puljujarvi could no longer be part of the team.
According to multiple reports the Penguins have placed Puljujarvi on waivers in order to send him to the AHL.
Puljujarvi once a top prospect for the NHL Draft selected by the Edmonton Oilers has had a difficult career struggling to find his role in the NHL.
He had signed with the Penguins after having double hip surgery hoping to resurrect his career and start anew.
After playing 22 games last season with the Penguins some had seen hope that the 26-year-old could carve out a role in the bottom-six for the Penguins.
Unfortunately this season Puljujarvi failed to take the next step and in 21 games this season Puljujarvi regressed to just 4 total points tallied.
Now over the next 24 hours, every team in the NHL will have an opportunity to claim Puljujarvi and keep his NHL hopes alive.
If he goes unclaimed Puljujarvi will head to the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins in the AHL.
At the age of 26 this could likely be the final nail in the coffin for Puljujarvi's career in the NHL over the next few days it will be fascinating to see if he gets another NHL opportunity or if he is forced to head overseas once again to continue his career.
