During an appearance on the Jeff Marek show, Friedman disclosed that talks surrounding the Hurricanes' forward are gaining momentum. Despite his characteristic caution in wording, it appears increasingly probable that Necas will not remain with the Hurricanes for the upcoming season.
According to Friedman, the Hurricanes have specified their desired return in any trade involving Necas. The team holds Necas in high regard and is seeking a player of similar caliber in exchange. Necas demonstrated his value with 24 goals and 53 points in 77 games this season, although his previous season boasted even higher numbers with 28 goals and 71 points in the same number of games.
The Hurricanes face financial constraints this offseason, with just $26 million in cap space to address multiple roster vacancies. Necas' impending contract negotiations present an additional challenge, compounded by other expiring contracts on the team. Despite these hurdles, Necas may have enhanced his trade value following his performance at the World Championships, where he contributed significantly to Czechia's gold medal victory with seven points in five games.
