NHL insider Pierre LeBrun has recently shared an update regarding the situation with the Carolina Hurricanes' Jake Guentzel, as free agency approaches.

This year there was a trade between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Carolina Hurricanes involving Jake Guentzel. The deal included picks, prospects and Michael Bunting.
Done deal!

The #Canes have acquired forward Jake Guentzel and defenseman Ty Smith from the Penguins in exchange for forwards Michael Bunting, Ville Koivunen, Cruz Lucius and Vasily Ponomarev, as well as two conditional 2024 picks.

Pittsburgh retains 25% of Guentzel's salary.

Following a playoff run where Guentzel scored nine points in 11 games before being eliminated in the second round, his future with the Hurricanes is uncertain as he may explore other options in free agency.
According to insider Pierre LeBruns report;
My understanding is that the Hurricanes wasted no time in reaching out to Guentzel's camp to talk possible extension and that there have already been a number of conversations. The interest is mutual, Guentzel enjoyed his time in Carolina after the trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Now it's up to interim GM Eric Tulsky of the Carolina Hurricanes to lock Guentzel up long term and foster his chemistry with players, like Sebastian Aho moving forward.
Stay tuned for updates.
