NHL insider Jimmy Murphy is putting pressure on the Boston Bruins, saying the team needs to make a move ahead of this year's trade deadline.

The Bruins remain in the mix for a playoff spot in part thanks to their recent games.

The team is just 3-6-1 over their last ten, but they have won two in a row against tough opponents in the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Tonight they have an even more important contest against the Ottawa Senators, who are just one point behind them with two games in hand.

Regardless, it is pretty clear that the team is not deep enough to go on a Stanley Cup finals run as they are currently constructed.

They could use help up front, but Bruins insider Jimmy Murphy believes the more pressing need is on the blueline.

There are several notable defenseman that have been rumored to be available that could help the Bruins out this spring.

The first of these is Penguins veteran Marcus Pettersson. Pettersson has been linked to the Edmonton Oilers this season, but that doesn't mean the Bruins can't be in on him as well.

Pettersson has 2 goals and 16 points and carries a rating of -2 through 41 games this season. He's big, physical, and reliable, all qualities the Bruins would love to have in the playoffs.

Another top blueliner in rumors this year is Chicago's Seth Jones.

Jones has has a bounce back year posting 16 points in 29 games playing for the NHL-worst Blackhawks.

Like Pettersson, he is big and physical and he is willing to block shots as well.

His track record is mixed and he carries a big cap hit, but he would certainly bring more offense to the Bruins blueline.

Finally, perhaps the least exciting option for Don Sweeney is Scott Mayfield.

Mayfield is certainly the most stay-at-home of these options, but that could be just what the Bruins are looking for.

He's the largest of three defensemen standing at 6'5" and he has a +12 rating through 43 games this season despite playing for the mediocre Islanders.

Any of these defenders could go a long way towards helping the Bruins get into the playoffs and stick around if they do.

We will just have to see what Don Sweeney decides to do over the next few weeks.
