Although they've broken their losing skid, the Boston Bruins have now dropped seven of their past nine games, and with the Wild Card race in the Eastern Conference being so congested, they can't afford to fall any further in the Stanley Cup Playoffs race.
Unfortunately, that may now happen as the team have sustained some major injuries, with the team confirming that both veteran forward Mark Kastelic and defenseman Charlie McAvoy will be hitting Injured Reserve following injuries that should be long-term, but will be long enough to effect this team moving forward.
According to the team, this will result in young forward Matthew Poitras and defenseman Michael Callahan being recalled, with the team needing both to step into major roles if the team are to turn around their recent string of poor performances.
With Hampus Lindholm also being moved to Long-Term Injured Reserve, this sees another major shift on the Bruins blue line, with Nikita Zadorov taking a role on the first pairing alongside Andrew Peeke as this team looks to steady the ship.
While it's not ideal, this move may ultimately help the Bruins as it forces a young, top prospect in Poitras into a significant role, and if he can thrive there, it will allow them more depth once Kastelic returns.
As for Lindholm and McAvoy, they simply can't get back quick enough for the team, as they are desperate for some depth on the blue line, and if the team continue to struggle, they may fall out of a Stanley Cup Playoffs spot until one or both get back on the ice.
