Jacob Trouba was recently traded to the Anaheim Ducks, but now it appears the Toronto Maple Leafs are becoming a potential landing destination for him as they look to boost their roster ahead of a potential Stanley Cup run.
This past week has been a whirlwind for former New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba, as he was forced to waive his no-trade clause to accept a deal with the Anaheim Ducks to head to the Western Conference.
He may not last long there however, as reports have already emerged that the Ducks could retain salary on him and flip him for further assets, with Sportsnet's Luke Fox speculating that's exactly what they'll do.
"Could Ducks GM Pat Verbeek eat some of Trouba's salary and flip him to a contender? Perhaps send him back to the East, closer to his wife's hospital residency, for the final year-and-a-half of the defenceman's contract?" - Luke Fox of Sportsnet
Now, they may already have some suitors lined up, as Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun has now noted that they have eyes for the 30-year old defenseman, and if salary is retained, they become an intriguing landing spot for Trouba.
Leafs management likes big defenceman Jacob Trouba, the recently traded Rangers captain. And they might have some interest in Trouba, if Anaheim or somebody else eats a lot of salary, at the deadline.
This off-season, Toronto already added the likes of Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Jani Hakanpaa and Chris Tanev, and thus far, every single pickup has helped them take a major step forward.
However, one thing that they lack is genuine physicality on the blue line, and if the team could add Trouba with plenty of salary retained, it would give them another dangerous element that sets them apart from the rest in the Eastern Conference.
