Penguins forward Drew O'Connor and defenseman Marcus Pettersson could be on the move to Edmonton this season according to the latest rumors and trade speculation.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported today in a written-form 32 Thoughts that both Penguins players are guys to keep an eye on.
"Marcus Pettersson and Drew O'Connor are among those to follow. Pettersson deservedly gets a lot of attention, but O'Connor's low number ($925,000) and flexibility makes him attractive, too."
For starters, one of the players Haase mentioned was Lars Eller. She has already been proven correct on that front as Eller was traded to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday. This is where things get interesting, as she also specifically named Marcus Pettersson in her report.
The Oilers have reportedly been targeting defense first this year, and Pettersson could very well be a good option for the team. That being said, He might not be the only Penguin the Oilers are interested in.
Oilers reporter Bob Stauffer has been banging the table for O'Connor for some time now. Notably, he did say that the Oilers may be targeting players from a team that was not willing to sell yet, but that was before the Eller deal. Could this mean another trade is imminent?
All of this seems to point to some serious changes coming to Pittsburgh in the coming days. Be sure to stay tuned as we could have a number of trades to report.
