Toronto Maple Leafs obtain unrestricted free agent rights to Chris Tanev

UPDATE: As the NHL Draft concludes, another significant trade has been finalized, bringing defenseman Chris Tanev to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Reports are emerging as the NHL Draft concludes that the Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired the rights to Chris Tanev from the Dallas Stars.

In return, the Dallas Stars will receive a 2026 7th round NHL Draft pick and Max Ellis.

Currently, Chris Tanev is poised to become a free agent on Monday, but the Toronto Maple Leafs appear confident in securing a deal before then. Should they re-sign him, Tanev would significantly bolster the Maple Leafs' defense for the upcoming season.
