As part of this strategy, defenseman Dmitry Kulikov delivered a crushing hit on Sam Carrick. Shortly after, Carrick sought retribution with a slash aimed between Kulikov's legs.
The altercation resulted in penalties being issued and both players being separated. While Kulikov avoided a penalty, Carrick received a two-minute penalty for slashing and a 10-minute misconduct for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Panthers ultimately secured a 4-1 victory.
