Despite anticipated reductions in Sportsnet's broadcasting staff, reports indicate that Ron MacLean is expected to complete his contract with the network.

Controversy has surrounded Sportsnet in the wake of the 2024 NHL Draft, resulting in the dismissal of Jeff Marek, co-host of Elliotte Friedman's 32 Thoughts Podcast. What initially seemed like an attempt to downplay the issue has since revealed that Marek was being investigated by the Nevada Gaming Control Board for suspected leaks of teams' draft selections ahead of the official announcement.
"In July, Sportsnet quietly parted ways with Jeff Marek.

It wasn't the kind of move that normally would have gone unannounced, but the reason behind it led both parties to choose silence.

Marek had been questioned by the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) and NHL security for allegedly leaking which players teams were drafting moments before picks were publicly announced, according to league and media industry sources."
Although Marek's dismissal was the direct result of this situation, Insider reports hint at the possibility of more high-profile exits from the company. As noted by yyzsportsmedia, or "Jonah," Marek's departure might signal the beginning of a larger wave of upcoming staff reductions.
"While NOT connected AT ALL it appears that Jeff Marek's exit from Rogers SN could have come just ahead of what sounds like another round of "changes"/cuts/layoffs for the media company."
As expected, viewers speculated on who might be next to leave the company. Ron MacLean, host of Hockey Night in Canada, was a prominent name on this list. However, "Jonah" dampened those expectations, suggesting that MacLean is likely to fulfill his contract and may only leave in two years.
"Why make that change before the NHL Rogers deal is up in two years?"
Although he might not be the most favored host on the network, it likely makes more financial sense for Rogers Sportsnet to let Ron MacLean complete his remaining two years on his contract rather than offering a severance package.
It would be prudent for them to plan in advance for his replacement once he eventually retires.
