Miroslav Holinka, one of the Toronto Maple Leafs' premier prospects, is heading to North America to join the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL.

With the regular season two months away, the Maple Leafs have something exciting to anticipate: one of their top prospects, who has been playing overseas, is making the move to North America to sign with the Edmonton Oil Kings. Both fans and the Leafs coaching staff will be closely watching Miroslav Holinka, a fifth-round pick by the Leafs in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
Holinka was also picked 14th overall by Edmonton in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Import Draft in June, just a few weeks before the Leafs selected him 151st overall in the NHL Entry Draft.
Hailing from Komeriz, Czechia, Holinka spent the 2023-24 season primarily in his home country's junior league, where he notched 20 goals and 21 assists in 29 games with HC Oceláři Třinec.
HC Oceláři Třinec is renowned as the premier hockey organization in the Czechia Extraliga, having secured five consecutive championships in the country's top hockey league, a remarkable achievement given the sport's competitive nature and parity.

Oil Kings have signed Miroslav Holinka to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement, the club announced today. Holinka was selected 14th overall by the club in the 2024 CHL Import Draft. Welcome to the Oil Kings, Miroslav! 👑
Holinka has also represented his country at the international level with the U19 and U20 teams but did not participate in the World Junior Hockey Championships. Recently, he played for the U20 team in Finland in July, where he scored three goals and added one assist in three games.
Oil Kings president Kirt Hill commented, «Since the NHL Draft, Miroslav has continued to impress at the Maple Leafs Development Camp and the Summer World Junior Showcase in Europe. We are excited to welcome him to our club in early September and add his offensive skills and instincts to our forward group.» This news is promising for Leafs fans who hope to see Holinka make an impact in the NHL in the future.
The Oil Kings have missed the playoffs the last two seasons, including a challenging 10-54-4 record in 2022-23. With the addition of Holinka and three other NHL draft picksAdam Jecho (St. Louis), Parker Alcos (Vancouver), and Gracyn Sawchyn (Florida)the team aims to make a return to the playoffs.
