Police report confirms driver arrested and charged with the fatal deaths of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau
Johnny Gaudreau 31 years old, and Matthew 29, were struck and killed by a car while cycling in Salem County, New Jersey. The Gaudreau family was in the area for their sister Katie's wedding, set to take place in Philadelphia on Friday.

According to the New Jersey State Police, the incident occurred when a man, Sean M. Higgins, attempted to pass two vehicles while driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the same direction as the Gaudreau brothers.
The Driver hit the Gaudreau brothers from behind while trying to pass an SUV on the right, which had moved over to accommodate the cyclists. The incident occurred in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, at 8:19 p.m., where police confirmed that both Gaudreaus tragically lost their lives.
Authorities suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol and have charged them with two counts of death by auto and is currently in custody. The investigation is still in progress.

While Johnny's infectious spirit for the game and show-stopping skills on the ice earned him the nickname �Johnny Hockey,' he was more than just a dazzling hockey player; he was a doting father and beloved husband, son, brother and teammate who endeared himself to every person fortunate enough to have crossed his path."
"We send our most heartfelt condolences to his wife Meredith; their children, Noa and Johnny; his parents, Guy and Jane; and sisters Kristen and Katie. And we grieve alongside his teammates, members of the Blue Jackets and Flames organizations, his many friends in hockey and countless fans around the world for whom he created indelible memories on and off the ice."
