Heartbreaking news as former OHL player tragically passes away following battle with cancer

Former OHL player Kurtis Evans of the North Bay Battalion hockey team, passed away at the age of 23 following a fight with cancer.

The OHL released the following statement:
The Ontario Hockey League is saddened by the passing of former North Bay Battalion forward Kurtis Evans, who died following a battle with cancer on October 3, 2024 at the young age of 23.

Kurtis Evans, a native of Uxbridge, Ontario, was selected by the Ontario Hockey League team in the third round after playing center for the Central Ontario Wolves AAA U15-U18 teams.
Before retiring, Evans was a member of the Battalion for three seasons, from 2017 to 2019. According to his obituary, he passed away on October 3 at home in the company of his family.
"Kurtis was known for his radiant smile and his kind, compassionate soul," The obituary said.

"He had an extraordinary gift for forming deep connections with people from all walks of life, remaining steadfastly dedicated to his friends and loved ones."
Family members recall Evans as a "natural athlete" who excelled in a variety of sports and had a strong love for the great outdoors.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the medical professionals who cared for Kurtis throughout his journey, as well as the friends and family whose support was invaluable during this time. A special thanks goes to his girlfriend, Kenzie Cunningham, for her unwavering love and support.

To honour Kurtis' memory, the Evans family would welcome donations made to the Ewings Cancer Foundation of Canada.
We send our heartfelt thoughts and deepest condolences to the Evans family and all affected by this tragic loss.
