The Winnipeg Jets are off to a hot start in 2024/25, and with the aim of turning that into a deep playoff run, they're now eyeing a major upgrade on the back end.

While there's plenty of talent on the roster, they were major buyers at the deadline a year ago, picking up Sean Monahan and Tyler Toffoli, and now it appears they're ready to do the same thing again this season.
One area that the Jets could improve upon is their blue line, with very little impact being made beyond their star Josh Morrisey, with Ken Wiebe and Mike McIntyre both pointing out the Jets need for a puck moving blue liner.
According to Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe of The Winnipeg Free Press, the Jets could target a big, puck-moving defenseman to solidify their defensive core for a deep playoff run.
Fortunately for Winnipeg, there is expected to be several of them available, with the likes of Marcus Pettersson, Rasmus Ristolainen, Ivan Provorov and Jamie Oleksiak all potentially to be had via trade.
The biggest and most exciting of those names is Pittsburgh's Marcus Pettersson, who would be a rental as he is set to hit free agency this upcoming off-season, and while he only has 11 points on the season, he would gel perfectly on the Jets second pairing.
While Haydn Fleury, Dylan Demelo, Logan Stanley and Ville Heinola are all solid pieces on the blue line, those four names making up the bottom four isn't a recipe for success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with the team needing a difference maker.
Another potential name could be Rasmus Andersson of the Calgary Flame, but it's unlikely that Winnipeg would want to pay that price, so for now expect them to go after pending UFA's as they look to finally turn their potential into a deep run late in the season.
Through 26 games this season, the Winnipeg Jets have posted an 18-8-0 record, and with talent at every level, it's safe to say that they should be competing for a Stanley Cup in 2024/25.
