According to a report from RNMB, the Jets were actively seeking to trade Rutger McGroarty and nearly struck a deal with Washington to acquire the skilled 23-year-old McMichael. This was unexpected, as McMichael had recently signed a two-year extension with the Capitals after a season in which he achieved career highs in goals (18), assists (15), points (33), and games (80).
Although the trade did not go through, it underscores Winnipeg's willingness to move McGroarty, despite potential concerns about his character.
