Arturs Silovs faces an AHL demotion with the Abbotsford Canucks as a result of his subpar start to the 2024-25 NHL season.

There is no denying that Arturs Silovs, the goalie for the Vancouver Canucks, has not performed well to begin the 2024-25 NHL season. Although the loss last night is not entirely his fault, it may force management to make a tough choice.
The Canucks' 6-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils at Rogers Arena on Wednesday haltingly exposed the errors they've been making, the gaps in their game they've been patching with creative goaltending and loser-points.
Too few saves and too many outnumbered rushes were permitted. Insufficient resolve without the puck, carelessness with it. In front of either net, it is not nearly good enough. The Canucks won't be the team they think they can be if Wednesday's game doesn't inspire them to begin a serious identity search. Last season, they demonstrated themselves as a solid team compared to this one at the moment.
«It was embarrassing,» veteran defenceman Tyler Myers said. «We should be embarrassed. Even through some wins the last couple of weeks, there were some things within our game right now that we've got to clean up. We've got to find our identity. Right now, we're just, we're not there yet, and we know it."

«We had two-on-ones and three-on-twos against the whole night - stuff we have to clean up. We're swinging (and not stopping). We're not going through people. Like I said, it's finding our identity, and right now we don't have it. Maybe it's a good wake-up call for us.»

Could Rick Tocchet send Arturs Silovs to the AHL's Abbotsford?

Silovs has played in three games this season, with a 0-2-1 record, a 5.00 goals against average, a .797 save percentage, and 15 goals given up on 59 shots.
Due to his poor start to the season, Silovs may be sent to the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League. Only time will tell if that occurs prior to or following the Canucks' three-game road trip.
If assigned to Abbotsford, the Latvian native from Riga would have to take the demotion as motivation, and it would also be a fantastic chance for him to play more games. Kevin Lankinen has secured the starting position until Thatcher Demko can return due to his recent play.
By playing down in Abbotsford, Arturs Silovs may be able to regain the confidence that Vancouver Canucks supporters witnessed in the rookie goalie during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, where he was instrumental in leading the team to Game 7 of the second round.
Jiri Patera would undoubtedly be called up from Abbotsford if Silovs were sent down to the American Hockey League. Since agreeing to a two-year deal with the Canucks in July, Patera has experienced an incredible journey. Following the signing of Kevin Lankinen, Patera was placed on waivers by the Canucks during training camp.
Prior to Jeremy Swayman agreeing to a new contract, Patera was claimed by the Boston Bruins due to their goaltending predicament. After being placed back on waivers by the Bruins less than a week later, Jiri Patera was claimed by Patrik Allvin and sent to the American Hockey League. Patera has a 1-1-1 record with the Abbotsford Canucks in four games this season, a 2.73 goals against average, a .896 save percentage, and one shutout.
