On Friday afternoon, the teams of three former Vancouver Canucks placed them on the waiver wire.

With a total of 25 players placed by their respective teams to be assigned to the American Hockey League, the National Hockey League's waiver wire was quite active on Friday afternoon.
Sam Poulin, a first-round selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2019, is one of the 25 players that were put on the wire on Friday. Poulin was chosen by the Penguins front office, which was headed by General Manager Jim Rutherford and Director of Amateur Scouting Patrik Allvin, who was heavily involved in the decision.
Three former Vancouver Canucks, Will Lockwood (Florida Panthers), Michael DiPietro (Boston Bruins), and Ethan Bear (Washington Capitals), are also available on waivers this afternoon.
After the 2022-2023 season, Bear, 27, became an unrestricted free agent after the Vancouver Canucks failed to qualify him. After undergoing shoulder surgery, he signed with Washington in December 2023. He played in 24 games for them the previous season, scoring four points (three goals, one assist), earning ten penalty minutes, and finishing with a minus-five rating.
DiPietro, an Ontario native, contributed significantly to the Providence Bruins of the AHL in 2023-24. He finished with an 18-9-2 record in 30 games, a 2.51 goals against average, a.918 save percentage, and four shutouts.
The Florida Panthers and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, were the two teams that Lockwood, 26, played for last season. Lockwood had 16 penalty minutes, one assist, and a minus-two rating in 26 games for the Panthers. However, the native of Royal Oak, Michigan recorded 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists), ten penalty minutes, and a plus-11 rating in 32 AHL games.
It's expected to be a busy weekend on the wire because the NHL roster submission deadline is on Monday at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT). We'll have to wait and see if Patrik Allvin decides to place anyone on waivers in order to assign them to Abbotsford. Due to their disastrous NHL season, the San Jose Sharks will have the first opportunity to file a waiver claim between now and November 1st.
