The rumors won't die between the Vancouver Canucks and a potential trade involving forward JT Miller, who had been rumored to be close to being dealt last weekend.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the deal was all but completed before falling apart ahead of Saturday's game against the Edmonton Oilers.
In that proposed deal, Miller would have gone to the New York Rangers, with Filip Chytil, Ryan Lindgren, and a first-round pick reportedly included in the return.
The NHL trade market is always turning, and where Miller ends up is still uncertain. The Carolina Hurricanes have continued to come up as a real bidder for his services.
Nick Kypreos reported on Friday that the Hurricanes are being very aggressive in pursuit of Miller, viewing him as the final missing piece to their roster.
Canucks GM Patrik Allvin would appear to be holding out for a massive return that would have Vancouver coming out on top in this blockbuster.
Now, in what many are describing as a twist, the focus may be shifting toward trading Elias Pettersson instead, as Allvin clearly doesn't appear to be happy with the return haul, which has likely been holding up a trade involving Miller.
The Hurricanes were involved in trade speculation for Elias Pettersson last season, so perhaps they shift their discussions back to that player instead of Miller since they've been unable to come to a trade agreement yet.
The Hurricanes have a deep pool of prospects and own a number of draft picks, so they can offer a slam-dunk trade. Inserting Pettersson's offense and playmaking into an already well-built lineup might just make the Hurricanes a Stanley Cup favorite.
