The Vancouver Canucks have eyes on the Stanley Cup in 2024/25, and now it appears they're ready to move on from Vincent Desharnais just months after signing him.

After a stellar 2023/24 campaign that saw injuries cut short their Stanley Cup Playoffs run, the Vancouver Canucks had to make some big decisions this summer, and it's led to plenty of changes within their roster.
Some of those moves were great, while others they clearly want to move on from, and according to Canucks reporter Rick Dhaliwal, that may be the case in the very near future for defenseman Vincent Desharnais.
A couple of people tell me that they've heard Desharnais' name out there. Some think his name is out there in the trade market.
This doesn't exactly sound like the most concrete report we've ever heard from Dhaliwal, but he is very well connected within Vancouver, so this definitely shouldn't be taken lightly.
The 28-year old Desharnais was signed as a free agent this summer after spending the last two years struggling to find consistent playing time with the Edmonton Oilers, and through 17 games played, he has just 2 assists and a -4 differential.
It's unclear whether or not Vancouver would use him to land a bigger target or whether they'd take a smaller return to move on from him, but after just 17 games, it's clear the team don't see him in their plans.
There's still plenty of time before the trade deadline, so whether or not it's a waiting game for Vancouver as they look to find the right deal for him or whether they ultimately end up waiving him, but for now, all signs are pointing to the team regretting their free agent deal in the summer and parting ways with the veteran.
