The Anaheim Ducks recently acquired Jacob Trouba from New York, and after trade speculation surrounded his future once more, the plans for him have been made clear.
This past week saw plenty of changes and moves in the NHL, with the biggest of all being the Anaheim Ducks acquisition of Jacob Trouba, former captain of the New York Rangers in a surprise deal that saw them take on his entire salary for the remainder of 2024/25 and next season.
Now however, Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos has quietened down all that speculation, as he revealed the Ducks true plans for Trouba moving forward, which will certainly raise some question marks about the organization.
It's sounding highly unlikely that the Ducks will flip Jacob Trouba at the deadline after acquiring him from the Rangers. Apparently a lot of work went into convincing Trouba that he'll be a big part of their rebuild and also provide wonderful opportunities for his wife in the medical field after completing her residency.
While Trouba certainly isn't the type of player a franchise can build around, he's seemingly a great leader from the back end after serving as the Rangers captain for the last few seasons, and it appears the Ducks see him as a leader to help this team through their rebuild.
This could be a risky move from the Ducks, as they already have one hard-hitting veteran in a leadership role that could block talented blue liners coming through the NHL level, but with a forward group stacked full of young talent, it certainly wouldn't hurt having a player like Trouba to lead the way alongside Radko Gudas.
