#Canucks have signed D Filip Hronek to an eight-year, $58 million extension: 8 years x $7.25 million.
Major deal completed.
General Manager Patrik Allvin announces that the #Canucks have agreed to terms with defenceman Filip Hronek on an 8-year contract with a $7.25M AAV.
Filip Hronek was acquired from the Detroit Red Wings in a trade last season and spent much of this season paired with Quinn Hughes. Hughes's success while playing alongside Hronek likely influenced this decision significantly.
Maybe a little rich for my blood given I rate Filip Hronek as a true-talent No. 3 or 4, but certainly not egregiously so. He also seems like a uniquely good fit alongside Quinn Hughes, which is worth paying for.
Heading into the 2024-25 NHL season, the Vancouver Canucks have secured many of their core players with long-term contracts and have flexibility to make further additions through free agency. We'll keep you updated on additional moves by the Canucks and other teams.
