According to Dhaliwal's latest report this morning:
Mikheyev, 29, has two years remaining on a four-year, $4.75 million contract he signed as a free agent with the Canucks in the 2022 offseason. Although he had a productive first season with the team, it was brief. However, he struggled to secure a permanent roster spot this past season, scoring 13 goals and 28 points in just 46 games during the injury-riddled 2022-23 season, and 11 goals and 31 points in 78 games this season.
While he briefly played on the Canucks' top line with Elias Pettersson and Andrei Kuzmenko (before Kuzmenko was traded to the Calgary Flames), they failed to develop effective chemistry.
It seems the Mikheyev era in Vancouver is nearing its conclusion, as the Canucks aim to utilize his cap space to potentially sign pending unrestricted free agents like Nikita Zadorov and/or Elias Lindholm. Additionally, there's considerable speculation that the Canucks will aggressively pursue pending free agent Jake Guentzel.
In any scenario, Vancouver stands to gain significant cap flexibility if they can offload Mikheyev's contract without absorbing any salary in return. Keep an eye on developments.
