Nick Robertson has had difficulty finding his place within the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. Consequently, reports indicate that he has requested a trade to seek a fresh start elsewhere.
Since making this trade request, there have been various speculations about where Nick Robertson might end up. Today, a mock trade proposal has surfaced, which would bring a former 2nd overall pick to the Toronto Maple Leafs, providing a significant scoring boost to their lineup.
The proposed mock trade would see Nick Robertson, along with David Kampf, Calle Jarnkrok, and a 1st-round pick, heading to the Columbus Blue Jackets. In return, the Toronto Maple Leafs would acquire elite scorer Patrik Laine, who is also seeking a new team, and a 2026 2nd-round pick.
The Columbus Blue Jackets would enhance their young core with Nick Robertson, who has struggled at the NHL level with just 34 points in 87 NHL games. However, at 22 years old, he still has ample time to develop and improve.
The Toronto Maple Leafs would gain Patrik Laine, who spent a significant part of last season in the NHLPA Player Assistance Program. He has since been cleared to return and seeks a fresh start. At his peak, Patrik Laine is a 30 to 40-goal scorer with point-per-game potential. Playing alongside some of the Maple Leafs' top playmakers could further elevate his performance.
At the moment, this proposal remains speculative and far from a confirmed deal. If executed, it could be a trade where all parties feel they have come out ahead.
