There have been a lot of trade rumors flying around this summer, but the latest one between the Golden Knights and the Maple Leafs might be the biggest of all.

This latest rumor is a major blockbuster trade possibility. It consists of the Toronto Maple Leafs trading Mitch Marner and Timothy Liljegren to the Vegas Golden Knights for all-star defenseman Alex Pietrangelo and William Karlsson. Right off the bat, fans of both teams may get excited by this trade possibility, however it requires further examination to determine if both teams would actually benefit from this.
It started with a harmless Pietrangelo for Marner suggested deal, where two guys with NMCs must waive for it to happen. Then, it evolved to Shea. Either way, it's funny how these things start.
Vegas lost Jonathan Marchessault this off-season in free agency, and they are desperately looking to replace his offense. Adding Marner would immediately solve that problem. They would also get a solid replacement in Liljegren to fill in for Pietrangelo's departure.
As for the Leafs, they have a ton of offensive firepower already, so Karlsson would be a decent replacement for Marner, however where they would truly win here is on the back end. Toronto has failed to make deep runs in the playoffs and have some weaknesses on the back end. Pietrangelo would immediately bring stability, a veteran presence, and tons of playoff experience.

People are forgetting that Pietrangelo not only won the Cup with Vegas, but he did so as well with the St. Louis Blues in 2019. That's exactly what the Leafs need if they are going to get over that playoff hump. As for Vegas, Marner will be a huge upgrade over Marchessault. The verdict is in, this trade is a win for both teams!
