The Toronto Maple Leafs have secured their 2024 first-round pick, Ben Danford, with a three-year entry-level contract, the team has announced.

Defenseman, Danford was chosen 31st overall by the Maple Leafs, recorded one goal and 33 points in 64 games with the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League. He also contributed 4 goals and 10 points in 21 OHL playoff games with Oshawa.
In the draft rankings, Danford was placed 35th by NHL Central Scouting for North American skaters, and TSN's Bob McKenzie had him at 54th.
Danford was among two Oshawa Generals selected in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft, alongside teammate Beckett Sennecke, who went third overall to the Anaheim Ducks.
A standout for former head scout Wes Clark, now with the Pittsburgh Penguins as Vice President of Player Personnel, Leafs GM Brad Treliving told Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman that the scouting team felt confident trading down from the 23rd pick to select Danford.
"He's a guy our staff was really focused in on, and that's why we traded down. Took a chance."
