Morgan Rielly entangled in a legal conflict with the City of Toronto
Today, a recent report has surfaced, indicating that Morgan Rielly, star defenseman for the Toronto Maple Leafs, is currently entangled in a legal dispute with the City of Toronto.
The legal wrangling arises subsequent to Morgan Rielly and Tessa Virtue's joint purchase of a residence. Following the acquisition, they sought to enact some alterations, particularly transitioning the exterior color of the house from red to white. However, the contract for these modifications was halted by the Heritage Department of Toronto.
The city's heritage department claims that the change from red to white would undermine the character of the property, though ultimately it will be city council that gets the final say on whether the paint job can continue forward or not.
Morgan Rielly now joins the ranks of Toronto Maple Leafs players embroiled in legal disputes with the government. John Tavares is also contesting a decision made by the CRA concerning his taxes.
The CRA is disputing a claim by Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares that the USD $15.25 million the team paid him in 2018 was a signing bonus, saying that that the amount was effectively a form of salary and should be taxed at a higher rate.
One hopes that these off-ice distractions faced by the Maple Leafs' key players will not detract from their offseason training as the summer progresses. The composition of the team for the upcoming season remains uncertain, but both Morgan Rielly and John Tavares are expected to play significant roles in the plans.
