Another former NHL player has died in the hockey world. It was announced today that Pete Conacher, a former Toronto Maple Leaf has sadly passed away.
Legendary Maple Leafs analyst Joe Bowen paid a touching homage to their friendship on X, saying:
Conacher was a member of the New York Rangers, Chicago Black Hawks, and Toronto Maple Leafs. Conacher performed for the Belleville McFarlands, the world champions, in 1959. He is the son of Charlie Conacher, an NHL Hall of Famer.
He joined the NHL Oldtimers Hockey Club after his professional career ended in 1966, and for the next 13 years, he played charity hockey games all over Canada. Pete was inducted into the Belleville Hall of Fame in recognition of his 1959 World Championship triumph with the Belleville McFarlands.
Conacher previously served as the president of Special Olympics Canada's Ontario chapter. When he wasn't playing hockey in the summer, he would play senior baseball for Lizzies at the former Viaduct Stadium and in the Beaches Major Fastball League. Additionally, he was a board member of the Toronto General Hospital's Charlie Conacher Throat Cancer Research Fund. For more than 48 years, Pete and his spouse, Ann, resided in Etobicoke. Later on, he served on the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame's Board of Directors.
Pete finished his career as a professional hockey player with 229 NHL regular season games played, 47 goals, and 39 assists.
Our deepest condolences go out to his family and loved one.
