Toronto Maple Leafs' offseason departures have impacted many, but one in particular has hit Easton Cowan hard.
Cowan, a first-round pick in the 2023 draft, didn't spend much time with former director of amateur scouting Wes Clark, but the impact Clark had on his development was significant. Cowan shared at the World Junior Summer Showcase just how much Clark's departure has affected him.
"I was truly heartbroken when I heard the news," Cowan admitted. "He was one of the few who really believed in me and was instrumental in drafting me. It's a tough loss, but I texted him to let him know. He continues to send me motivational quotes and support. It's hard to turn down a great opportunity, so I'm happy for him and hope to cross paths again someday."

Kyle Dubas, the GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins, hired Clark as the Penguins revamp and look to strengthen their prospect pool.
While Cowan is undoubtedly saddened by the departure of his friend, he has his own goals to focus on. Not only is he aiming to secure a spot on the Leafs' roster this fall, but he's also setting his sights on making Team Canada for the World Junior Championship starting on Boxing Day.
Though Cowan has yet to debut in the NHL, he posted impressive numbers in the OHL with the London Knights last season, tallying 34 goals and 62 assists in 54 games.
