Throughout the summer, there were rumors about the Hurricanes shopping forward Martin Necas, primarily due to his dissatisfaction with not being played at center. Despite these summer upheavals, Martin Necas has now signed a new extension with the Hurricanes.
Following the extension, NHL insider Frank Seravalli disclosed that two teams had aggressively pursued a trade for Necas. He also revealed the details of one team's trade proposal.
This afternoon, Frank Seravalli reported on two teams that attempted to trade for Martin Necas. The first was the Buffalo Sabres, who had a potential deal in place, but Necas declined to sign an extension with them.
The second was the Winnipeg Jets, who proposed a package including top young players Cole Perfetti and Rutger McGroarty, plus a draft pick. However, the Hurricanes rejected this offer outright.
While these trade offers might have represented fair value for Necas, they would have moved the Hurricanes further from immediate contention. With Necas's extension, the Hurricanes secure at least a two-year tenure with a player who has proven effective.
Should negotiations go well, a longer-term deal could follow. If not, the market will likely offer similar trade values for Necas.
