The St. Louis Blues are looking to push for a spot in the playoffs this season, and to do that it appears as though they're looking to sell veteran Brandon Saad.
This past summer, the St. Louis Blues added some great young talent in Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg, and with some young talent already on the roster, there was plenty of optimism heading into the season.
However, Elliotte Friedman has now revealed that the team are looking to sell off one of their veterans in forward Brandon Saad, with the team potentially looking to get younger or clear cap space for another big time move.
The Blues made Brandon Saad a healthy scratch tonight. He is in year three of his contract and he has one year remaining at a $4.5 million AAV. He is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion and the Blues would like to move him.
He's got a no-trade clause but I've been told he's willing to consider other options, so that's another one to keep an eye on.
At this point, it appears to be way too early in the situation to tell exactly which teams could be interested in the 32-year old winger, but with the two parties talking about it, that must mean there is interest around the league.
In 27 games this season, Saad has tallied 4 goals and 10 points alongside a -6 differential, and while he's not quite the 50 point scorer that he was at his peak a decade ago, he could no doubt bring experience and leadership to a Stanley Cup Playoffs contender on the trade market.
Given the big moves that GM Doug Armstrong has made since the summer, the Blues are clearly intent on shaking things up, and if they can get Saad to waive his NTC, expect some movement on this in the very near future.
