The New York Rangers have struggled for consistency early in the year, and according to an ESPN insider, this could lead to some huge free agent deals in the summer.

After a solid start to the 2024/25 campaign, the New York Rangers have fallen apart as of late, and after trading their captain to the Anaheim Ducks, it appears to be a matter of when, not if this roster gets a major shakeup.
At this point, Chris Kreider's name is the one out there as a potential trade candidate, but the team may ultimately wait until the summer to make some changes, and it could pay off big time.
According to Emily Kaplan, this could make them the biggest players in free agency, naming three massive names as targets for GM Chris Drury to shake up this core in the off-season.
«We just know it's in the nature of the New York Rangers and a James Dolan owned team to always go after the big splashes. Any of these top names that you're going to see available this summer or next, whether it is Mitch Marner, Mikko Rantanen, Jack Eichel

On Saturday, the Rangers lost 5-1 on their home ice to the LA Kings, dropping them to 3-7 in their last 10 overall games, and as they now sit outside the Stanley Cup Playoff picture, this season could keep getting worse.
While the core is ageing, New York still have the likes of Adam Fox, Igor Shesterkin and Artemi Panarin locked in long-term, and with all three of these free agent names potentially adding to this talent pool, we could be in for a shakeup.
There's still plenty of time before the summer begins however, with New York still chasing a Stanley Cup in 2024/25, and whether or not that happens, expect them to target one or two big names that could make them contenders for years to come.
