Sidney Crosby Speaks Out on Penguins' Disappointing Collapse Against Canucks
Everything was going well for a while in Vancouver. Sidney Crosby and the Penguins led 2-0 early in the second, until the game took a radical turn.
In a span of 65 seconds, the Canucks scored three goals, and they added a fourth just before the final buzzer went off. The Penguins rallied for a one-point comeback in the closing frame, but Vancouver won 4-3. On their road trip to Canada, the Penguins come home with a 0-3-1 record.
In his post-game interview last night, the esteemed captain, who is extremely critical of himself, shifted the blame to the team as a whole, pointing out that they have a tendency to let momentum work against them.
"We had a good third, so try to build off of that - that urgency, that desperation. For most of the game we did a lot of good things. We've got to find a way to not to allow momentum or chances to add up and pile up and make that the difference in the game, because we're working too hard to generate other chances to do good things to give it away like that."
Crosby reaffirmed that ongoing errors cannot be tolerated in a different interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
"We just can't chase a mistake with another one. There's got to be a certain awareness when we do give up one. We've got to follow it up with a good shift or at least get the momentum back and try to counter that."
It is evident that Sidney Crosby still has faith in the team and organization after agreeing to a two-year, $17.4 million extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins prior to the 2024-25 NHL season, but it's possible that his unwavering loyalty was misguided.
We all hope that the veteran Sid The Kid has another run in the books, but if this is it for one of the greatest and most reliable playoff performers of all time, Sidney Crosby, it will be a legacy of passion and leadership.
Bryan Rust, who played along Evgeni Malkin for the first time this season, scored a goal early in the game, but unfortunately ended up leaving with an injury. The only update, according to head coach Mike Sullivan, is that Rust is being assessed.
«We've only played 10 games so far, but the next 10's going to come fast, and same thing after that,» Nedeljkovic said. «So, we've got to find a way to nip it in the bud right now and regroup and look for a good, strong effort at home on Tuesday.»
With Marc-Andre Fleury and the Minnesota Wild scheduled to visit PPG Paints Arena on October 29, the Penguins are currently 3-6-1 on the season. The Penguins discovered last year how quickly games fly, even though it is still early in the season.
